Transactions:
Placed LF Júlio Casanes on the 11-day disabled list, retroactive to 07/30/2036.
Demoted SP Juan Cuesta to Triple A San Juan.
Purchased the contract of SP Gehrig Pearl from Triple A San Juan.
Placed LF Mike Smith on the 40-man roster.
Purchased the contract of LF Mike Smith from Triple A San Juan.

The loss of Casanes is going to hurt. I called up Mike Smith who I think will be ok. He has a good eye, a decent fielder, some speed and can find the gaps. He was hitting .287-11-76 in AAA, so now its time for him to prove he is ready. The 24-year-old wasn't happy sitting in AAA and he will be in the starting lineup over the next 6-weeks. Exciting times.

Cuesta did ok in 2 starts after getting the recall, but my head scout, Alex Elias, told me that Gehrig Pearl has found his control and is the best option. So I decided to call him up and see what he is made of.

Injuries:
CL Dani Rubio, torn laburm, 11-day DL, 6-weeks
1B Naofumi Ohayashi, oblique strain, 11-day DL, ready to be activated
OF Julio Casanes, sprained knee, 11-day DL, 6-weeks

* on thing about the 26-year-old Casanes is he is "fragile". And heading into 2037 he will be arbitration eligible. Does that make him trade bait? I hate taking on salary for fragile players.

Other/Roster News:
Not much we did sign 3 minor leaguers, still trying to find that gem in the rough.

OF Mike Smith has decided to start using his middle name instead of his first name after the first week of his big league career. Mike Smith will now be known as Giovanni Smith. Smith was quoted as saying he was tired of having such a "normal and boring" name.

GM Notes:
I decided to stay put at the trade deadline with what I have. I think it is ok and I think if we can continue to play the way we have we will be fine. Overcoming that Casanes injury will be our biggest hurdle heading into the final 2-months... I did try to pull off one deal with the Milton Brewers. Fernando Fareles, is a free-agent at the end of the season and he is struggling with the last place Brewers. I offered the Brewers draft picks and prospects, but I needed cash to help cover whats left of his $21,200,000 contract. They didn't have it, Corbin was against taking on debut so the deal didn't get done. He would have been a huge addition, but it isn't the end of the world.

I am getting excited about our #1 draft pick this year Tully Maxwell. I almost called up him, but I thought better of it. After hitting .379-14-37 in A-ball, he hit .529-5-17 in AA and is now playing in AAA. The talent is a little better and his .200-0-0 is showing it, but man he has a bright future. He will be the 3B in Chadds Ford in 2037. Unless there is a major injury I will not be calling him up, I don't want his clock to start!

I am not sure what Patterson's deal is with the bullpen. Summers and Rivera don't pitch in any games, but Robinson and Matos pitch in 3 each... I want Summers to pitch more, I figure he could be our #5 starter, and probably would be if I was running the staff.

Phil Davis has hit .282-4-12 since coming over and the big thing is he has scored 12 runs in 19 games. I brought him here to score runs and that is just what he has done. He has only 2 steals (in 3 attempts) in his 19 games here, and I have to say that is a little disappointing. Maybe Patterson needs to free the reigns a little bit.

I can tell that I am not 100% sold on this season yet or I just am not believing yet, as I keep on thinking about the off-season or trying to figure what I can do to make us better... yet there we are tied for first 9 games over .500. I just hope we can maintain this. Are you getting excited? The fans in Chadds Ford are with our fan interest soaring now I just have to jump on the bad wagon. I am not sold just yet.
