it could be other options that you use...
e.g. if you ever force the engine in the stats and ai screen for minor leagues, it will be much slower for each mil leauge you do that with.
having your prospect list done annually instead of dynamically can shave a few seconds off a year's sim. generating pictures on demand instead of auto, etc... typically if yo can make it 'on demand' or less frequency, it will speed up the sim. i wouldn't do that to anything important, of course, but feedback stuff i don't mind a millisecond delay when i load a small portion of it per use. i don't need 1000pics/yr of player profiles i'll never open.
if it's before the last patch and now, maybe it's some clean-up that's helping, since it's a new feature.
