Seriously? I mean, it's not rocket surgery or nuthin'. It's 1935--the only year Babe played with the Braves (who, at that time, played in Boston) and (I think) the only year Doc was with the Sox. Think exhibition. The Mets and Yankees used to have the Mayor's Trophy Game every year (usually played in season). The Boston Braves and Boston Red Sox also used to have an annual showdown, though theirs was held at the tail end of spring training at alternating Boston fields (in this case, Braves field). This was probably taken early in the day. I've seen other images from the game, itself, where there are more people in the stands (though attendance for these exhibitions--especially in the cold of April in Boston--was rarely capacity).
And, as a reminder, I noted that these Boston players (Red Sox all) had previously been Yankee teammates of the Babe, so the photographer obviously thought that was a shot he could sell....to somebody, I'm sure.
