GM Notes:
I am not sure what is going on, the owner is now happy, the fan interest is up to 67, and the clubhouse seems pretty mellow, and here I am ready to start a fire sale. Is their something wrong with me? Am I the only that is seeing how these guys are playing? Should I start drinking the kool-aid too?? Then again we have gone from 7-14 in April, to 14-15 in May to 16-10 in June. July will be a very important month.

Higashi looked good last week, maybe after his 2 rough starts, one in AAA, he is finally finding his groove, back from his injury. now all eyes will be on him and our record as we head towards the trade deadline. I signed him to bad contract, bad for us at least, not often you can have ace pitcher making $5 million a year... but I just don't think I can afford that and keep this team competitive. Hard to compete, however, when you can't keep these guys. Higashi $5.5M this year, $6.5 next, $7.5 in 2038.

Hank Davis and Ramon Cruz will be under my watchful eye for the month of July too. Cruz hit .251-15-45 last season and he is on pace for a pretty solid .260-17-90 season this year. But I have realized he has no discipline at the plate. In 280 plate appearances he hasn't walked yet! How does that happen? I am not sure there is a way to find the record for least amount of walks in a full season, but my guess is Cruz is right there.

Naofumi Ohayashi has been a pleasant surprise. I expected him to be a solid ballplayer, and he hasn't let me down. I would like to see him raise his .243 average but everything seems right on par with what I have expected. Hopefully Patterson will keep him in the lineup the rest of the way.

Well we are just about halfway through the season and I am this close to making a deal to make us better and that close to firesaling this team and getting younger guys in here that will be "rip" for us in 2 seasons... With Higashi, Ji and Shepherd starting to hit their stride maybe we are ready to make the move. We will need to score more runs, but maybe this is going to happen.

In 30 days I will have to know for sure if I want to start making moves.
