*** END REGULAR SEASON ***

The Philadelphia Phillies are champions of the National League, but don't plan the parade quite yet. "It's a nice accomplishment, but we haven't done anything until we win the World Series," said starting pitcher Pete Alexander. "We're going to celebrate this for sure, but the real celebration is still to come for fans in Philadelphia."

The award-winners for the batter and pitcher of the month were announced today.

Mickey Mantle nabbed September's American League Batter of the Month honors. The New York center fielder put together a .301 batting average with 12 home runs, 27 RBIs and 20 runs scored.
Mantle supplied a .291 BA with 40 home runs and 92 RBI this season.

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 27-year-old "Turkey" Mike Donlin put together a solid offensive month for St. Louis and was crowned September's top batter in the National League. He batted .347 with 5 home runs, 14 RBIs and 26 runs scored. On the year Donlin hit .316 with 21 home runs, 64 RBIs and 97 runs scored.

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Carl Hubbell still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in September. The 33-year-old starter for Detroit was named American League Pitcher of the Month earlier today. "Meal Ticket" collected 5 wins and 1 loss with 23 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 1.52 ERA in 47.1 innings of work. Hubbell delivered a record of 21-14 with 121 strikeouts and 67 walks in 284.2 innings and a 3.00 ERA.

Ewell Blackwell has made fans throughout Hardball Retrospective Turn of the Century League take notice over the past month with an exceptional 5-1 record. No pitcher in the National League threw better in September, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today. In 6 starts "The Whip" compiled a 2.98 ERA, putting up a 5-1 record, striking out 45 and tossing 45.1 innings. This year Blackwell compiled a 14-13 mark with a 3.49 ERA in 36 starts.
