It was announced today that St. Louis left fielder Joe Medwick has been acclaimed by the National League as the Player of the Week for his outstanding play last week. "Muscles" posted a .458 batting average as he collected 11 hits in 24 at-bats, 3 home runs and 11 RBIs. In the current season, Medwick has put up a .263 batting average with 134 hits, 18 home runs, 83 runs batted in and scored 64 runs.
Pitchers who faced the St. Louis Browns last week were happy to see Roy "Squirrel" Sievers in the rear view mirror. The 30-year-old left fielder was dubbed the American League Player of the Week for a 9-game tear that saw him hit at a .353 clip. For the week he also chalked up 12 hits in 34 at-bats, 4 home runs, 8 RBIs and 9 runs scored. Sievers is hitting .245 this season with 30 home runs, 95 RBIs and 75 runs scored. He has 124 hits in 507 at-bats.
