DBL News: First-Year Player Draft:
In the few hours remaining until the draft begins today, GMs across DELMARVA Baseball League will be penned up in their offices, making hurried last minute notes about each of their most coveted prospects. Fearful that things won't go as planned, many of them are still playing through the myriad scenarios that are all but certain to unfold in the high-stakes lottery of drafting. Scouting teams play devil's advocate, argue strategy back and forth and try to help their general manager gain the strategic upper hand, even though they know a lot of what transpires today will come down to being in the right place at the right time. BNN projects that the top picks of the draft will be:
1. Clint Guyer, 22 year-old RHP out of college.
2. Chris Sanders, 20 year-old RHP out of college.
3. Merlin Riley, 20 year-old CF out of college.
4. Kiyomasu Kono, 18 year-old CF out of high-school.
5. Mookie Wallstreet, 20 year-old CF out of college.
6. Joe Higgins, 18 year-old RHP out of high-school.
7. Carl Powell, 23 year-old RHP out of college.
8. Carl Hubbard, 18 year-old RHP out of high-school.
9. Chance Brady, 18 year-old RHP out of high-school.
10. Errol Arthur, 24 year-old LHP out of college.
These ballclubs will have the first five choices: Salisbury, Wilmington, Virginia Beach, Christiana and Ocean City.
The Cannons will pick 15th and 21st in the first round, 15th in the second round, 14th and 15th in the 4th round, and 5th and 14th in the 5th round. We are without a 3rd round pick this season.
DBL History of #1 Picks:
Here is a look at the past #1's, there is a lot of talent there. Jorge Moran fell just short of the Hall-of-Fame vote this year, but he should be a lock next. I went through the first four picks, which we agreed on with everyone and then I let Elias take over. I think he did a pretty decent job expect with our two 5th round picks. Not sure why he is drafting players with "Impossible" signability. Now to try to sign these guys.
