JANUARY 1958 RING – Rocco Mazzola vs Uwe Janssen at the Festhalle in Frankfort on Oct 12, 1957. Rocco is about 2-1/2 months removed from loosing his Italy Light Heavyweight Title to Alessandro D’Ottavio. It was Rocco’s first career loss after 13 wins and a draw which had placed him well up in the top 10 of the Ring’s Continental Cruisers ratings in 1957. A very short note on this fight in this issue of the Ring mentions that Janssen is a Southpaw. So, for the attached file I’ve updated him as a Southpaw. I think I’d rated Janssen in the past. Have to dig back into old files and postings to be sure. Did some play tweeking of his ratings also to brings his KO’s up and with it overall record came more in line. Rocco’s file is split between LHW and HW, the majority of his career was as a LHW. I’ve messed some with both ratings. See his Bio, I’ve made some notes of how I think his career breaks down between LHW and HW based on some info I found in some 1960 Ring issues.
TITLE BOUT 2013 – Janssen wins a Unanimous decision with the scoring not close, 77-76, 78-74 and 78-74. A slow tedious fight will a lot of clinching on both sides especially Rocco. Was hard watching my name sake fight this one. Wasn’t really fighting. Looking at the rating difference between the two did not figure any chance for Janssen in this one. So much for what I know!
