It does seem that I go several years/seasons between having a closer that is truly a "shut-down" sort of guy.
I thought the whole purpose of having a closer was for that "insurance" to save the win. So, maybe ERA isn't the best measure, but, selective perception or not, it is really hard to get a reliable closer.
