As the season's mid-point, the Cleveland Indians pace the Majors with a 51-30 record, 7 1/2 games ahead of the Philadelphia Athletics in the American League. The pennant chase in the National League is a close battle among four teams, with the Boston Braves (49-33) holding a half-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies. The Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals remain within striking distance.

Lou Gehrig has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 24-year-old first baseman of the New York Yankees had a pretty hot bat in the American League over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors. "The Iron Horse" batted .385 with 10 hits in 26 at-bats, 6 home runs and 11 RBIs. Thus far this season Gehrig is hitting .272 with 17 home runs, 55 RBIs and 50 runs scored. He has 82 hits in 301 at-bats and has played in 79 games.

Kiki Cuyler of the Pittsburgh Pirates had an award-winning week and today was voted the Player of the Week by the National League. For the week the 26-year-old right fielder batted .364 (12-for-33) with 2 home runs and 8 RBIs. Cuyler is hitting .251 this year with 13 home runs and 43 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .294, 19 walks and scored 40 times.
