The rule makes no sense. Gives the "home" team too much of an advantage. Runner on second ; as visiting team you must score and hope to plate another run at least --- As the home team if the visitors score one run or none , you sacrifice to third base and then score *** you may never need a hit.

It would be more exciting to have a shoot out like in hockey. Home Run Derby or Divide the field into point areas (foul balls an out) -- 9 different batters bat or till 3 outs --- highest number of points gets a run and wins . The "run" is counted as a "Team Earned Run" .
