Recommended reading for would-be GMs?

It's easy to be a fan of baseball without understanding a ton of the "expanded universe", but it can be difficult (or intimidating) to be a GM in OOTP without it. Calling on the well-versed, the well-traveled, and the successful, can any of you recommend some reading to help newer players transcend from manager to the front office?

The Rule-5 draft, sabermetrics, the international complex, determining trade value, and more... it can be a lot to wrap one's head around. Now before the flood of "Google it" pours in, I'm looking more for an in-depth understanding not only of term definitions, but strategies and full-scale conceptual analysis types of material. It can be web-based, but would prefer a good old-fashioned book if the experts have any to recommend.
