Game Start: 7:05 PM
Weather: 70 deg. Overcast with a 10 MPH wind blowing out to left.

Doyle Campbell, 3rd in the league in runs scored with 90 and 2nd in steals with 47, lines a hit to right. Willie Cardona strikes out looking. On the first pitch to Miguel Medina, Campbell takes off for 2nd, but we have a pitch-out called and he is a dead duck! Medina, 4th in the NL in BA at .335 and 3rd in RBIs with 98, flies out to right.

Bottom of the 1st: Frank Wiginton grounds out to 1st. Don Quinney grounds out to short. Rich Babbin flies out to center.

Top of the 2nd: Al Koets leads off with a home run to right, his 2nd straight game with a long ball. 1 to 0, Cardinals.

Top of the 3rd: Mark Andrade leads off with a double and with 1 out, Doyle Campbell hits a double. 2 to 0, Cardinals. Campbell steals 3rd and scores on a fly ball. 3 to 0, Cardinals.

Bottom of the 5th: With 1 out, Joe Hartin grounds a hit to right. He is our first base runner of the game. Mike Cavallaro grounds into a 4-6-3 double play....

Bottom of the 8th: We get our 2nd base runner of the game when Ernesto Gonzelez leads off with a little flare to left for a hit. We then get our 2nd GDP of the game when Joe Hartin bounces out, 4-6-3.....

Lost - 3 to 0

We had 2 hits and made 1 error.
The Cardinals had 7 hits and made no errors.

Ron Rau (L 8-11) went 9 innings (CG), allowed 3 runs, 7 hits, 1 home run, 1 HBP, no walks and struck out 5.

Javier de la Rosa (W 9-9) went 9 innings (CG), gave us no runs (ShO), 2 hits, no walks and struck out 2. He faced the minimum 27 batters and threw 91 pitches.

For the Cardinals, LF Al Koets hit his 6th home run of the season and then got plunked the next time up.

Elsewhere: San Diego beat San Francisco, 2 to 1, in 10 innings at home for their 16th straight win. The Giants only had 2 hits, one a PH RBI single by ex-Beaver Scott Setta. The Padres swept the Astros out of 1st place over the weekend, putting the Giants on top and now have swept the Giants out of 1st place in 2 games, putting the Astros back on top. It won't be long before they are putting themselves on top.
