Manager Rene Perez (61) has his Marlins in town to play a 4-game series through the weekend. They split a 2-game set with the Cubs on Monday and Tuesday. The first time we met them, we lost 3 of 4 in Miami, May 7-10. They are 3rd in the league in runs scored with 4.9 per game (Portland is #16 (last) with 3.5). Their batters lead the league with a .283 average. 2nd place Colorado is hitting .271. They are 4th in runs allowed with 3.8 per game (Portland is # 12 with 4.5). Top of the 3rd: P Jimmey Jones leads off with a double and Steve Sanchez follows with another. 1 to 0, Marlins. With 2 outs and Sanchez on 3rd, P Pete Reilly uncorks a wild pitch. 2 to 0, Marlins.

Bottom of the 5th: Ron Charles leads off with a walk. With 1 out, he steals 2nd. He goes to 3rd on a ground out. Ivan Lops drives one to deep center and CF Steve Sanchez reaches it easily, but drops the ball! E-8. Charles scores! 2 to 1, Marlins. We have yet to get a base hit....

Bottom of the 6th: Mike Cavallaro leads off and beats out an infield hit to give us our first knock of the game. With 1 out, Lebron Williams gets our 2nd hit, a grounder into right, and Cavallaro heads for 3rd and beats the throw. Williams moves up to 2nd. Jim Eighmy strikes out. 2 down. Ron Charles pops out to the catcher.

Bottom of the 9th: Still 2 to 1, Marlins. New pitcher: RHP Werner Berry, their closer. We get a 2-out infield hit from Ron Charles, but that is it.

Lost - 2 to 1

We had oursmallest crowd of the season: 10,395 paid.

We had 4 hits and made no errors.
The Marlins had 4 hits and made 1 error.

Pete Reilly (L 6-4) went 8 innings, allowed 2 runs, 4 hits, 2 walks and struck out 3. He threw a WP.
LHP Pedro Huerta went 1 inning, allowed a walk and struck out 1.

Jimmey Jones (W 11-6) went 6 innings, gave us 1 unearned run, 2 hits, 2 walks and struck out 7. At bat, he hit a double and scored a run.
RHP Werner Berry (SV 30) went 1 inning and gave us a hit.

2B Mike Cavallaro had 2 hits.
