AL Player of the Week - Ken Clark, lf, Detroit (33 L .310/.367/.467) Had 13 hits with 3 2B, 1 3B, 2 SB, 6 R and 4 RBI in 7 G
NL Player of the Week - Alfredo Cabrera, 1b, San Francisco (25 L .354/.371/.495) Had 19 hits with 7 2B, 1 HR, 8 R and 7 RBI in 7 G He began the season in AA. He was 9 for 50 (.180) before this week, when he went 19 for 32 (.594).

July 16: Going into the bottom of the 9th, Cincinnati trailed St. Louis, 6 to 1. But they scored 9 times in the final frame to win, 10 to 6. There is only one way to win by 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th and C Mike Midgett hit the Grand Slam with 2 outs.
July 16: 1B Don Russo of Los Angeles (N) hit 2 home runs at home versus Philadelphia. His 2nd led off the bottom of the 9th and tied the game. He drew a walk and had 3 RBIs. The Dodgers lost, 5 to 4, in 12 innings.
July 17: CF Gary Brown of New York (N) hit 2 home runs at home versus Houston. He drew 2 walks and had 3 RBIs. The Mets won, 5 to 4.
July 17: C Stan Brown of San Francisco hit 2 home runs at Chicago (N). He drew 2 walks and had 3 RBIs. The Giants won, 8 to 1.
July 18: Colorado beat Montreal in Montreal, 6 to 2, in 20 innings. The Rockies scored a run in the top of the 9th to tie the game and then no one scored until the final frame. The Expos did not score after the 5th inning. Colorado starter Rob Green pitched 11.1 innings and threw 125 pitches. 3 Colorado relievers allowed only 2 hits in 8.2 innings.
July 19: 2B Luis Castaneda of Cleveland had 5 hits at home versus Texas. He stole a base, scored a run and had an RBI. He singled in the bottom of the 9th with 1 out and scored the winning run when Antonio Vasquez hit a home run. The Indians won, 6 to 4.
July 19: CF Bill Costa of Milwaukee hit 2 home runs at home versus Toronto. He had 4 hits, scored 3 runs and had 3 RBIs. The Brewers lost, 9 to 8, in 11 innings.
July 20: 1B Ron Newberry of Atlanta hit 2 home runs at home versus New York (N). He drew a walk and had 3 RBIs. The Braves lost, 7 to 4.
July 20: CF Tommy Kelly of Boston hit 2 home runs at home versus Toronto. He also hit a triple and had 4 RBIs. The Red Sox won, 7 to 4.
July 21: Atlanta had two players hit 2 home runs each at home versus New York (N). 1B Ron Newberry did it for the second game in a row. He drew a walk and had 3 RBIs. CF Gary Chinnici also hit a triple, had a Grand Slam in the 5th inning, scored 3 runs and had 8 RBIs. The Braves won, 15 to 4.
July 21: 2B Roger Fritz of Toronto hit 2 home runs at Boston. He also drew a walk. His 2nd home run came in the top of the 9th and broke a 4-4 tie. The Blue Jays won, 6 to 4.
July 22: CF Steve Sanchez of Miami hit 2 home runs at home versus Montreal. He had 3 hits and 3 RBIs. The Marlins won, 7 to 1.
July 22: C Gary Stanley of Arizona hit 2 home runs at home versus San Diego. He drew a walk and had 3 RBIs. The Diamondbacks won, 5 to 2.
July 22: C George Bievins of Texas hit 2 home runs at Los Angeles (A). He had 3 hits and 4 RBIs. The Rangers won, 7 to 3.
Random Fact of the Week: We do lead the majors in one category! Our catchers have only had one passed ball all season!
