July 12: RF Jerry Ford of Pittsburgh hit 2 home runs at home versus St. Louis. He walked twice, scored 3 runs and had 5 RBIs. The Pirates won, 8 to 4.
July 12: C Miguel Colorado of Miami hit 2 home runs at Los Angeles (N). He drew a walk and had 4 RBIs. The Marlins won, 9 to 6.
July 12: LF Stan Cook of Oakland hit 2 home runs at home versus Tampa Bay. He drew a walk and had 4 RBIs. The A's won, 6 to 4.
July 13: LF Dennis Pittarelli hit 2 home runs at Toronto. He had 3 hits and 5 RBIs. The Mariners won, 11 to 2.
July 13: SS Tony Davila of Minnesota hit 2 home runs at home versus New York (A) in the 2nd game of a double header. He had 4 hits, scored 4 runs and had 6 RBIs. In the 3rd inning, he hit a Grand Slam. The Twins won, 11 to 1.
July 13: 3B John Johnson of Tampa Bay hit 2 home runs at Oakland. He drew 2 walks and scored 3 runs. The Rays won, 19 to 5.
July 14: C Howard Morrell of Houston hit 2 home runs at home versus Cincinnati. The Astros lost, 6 to 2.
July 14: SS Tadanobu Takemura of Milwaukee hit 2 home runs at home versus Detroit. The Brewers lost, 9 to 4.
July 14: RHP Mark McDonald of Oakland pitched a 3-hit shutout at home versus Tampa Bay, one day after the Rays scored 19 runs against the A's. He walked 1 and struck out 7. At bat, he hit a double and had 2 RBIs. It was his 2nd shutout of the season. He is now 8-4 with a 2.84 ERA. The A's won, 8 to 0.
July 14: C Doug David of Seattle hit 2 home runs at Toronto. He drew a walk and had 3 RBIs. The Mariners won, 6 to 5, in 11 innings.
July 15: One day after he pitch 8 shutout inning at Arizona, the Atlanta Braves traded SP Fran Johnson (27 R 7-9 3.61 ERA 117.1 IP) to Colorado for 1B Ron Newberry (25 L .299-2-12-.809 in 87 AB) and CF Ramon Chavez (19 R .212-2-9-.701 in 52 AB in Rookie Ball). Chavez can run and field, but does not look like he will ever hit much.
July 15: RHP Dale Priddy of Philadelphia pitched 4-hit shutout at home versus San Francisco. He did not walk a batter and struck out 2. He is now 7-5 with a 2.65 ERA. C Fred Wann hit 3 home runs. He drew a walk, scored 4 runs and had 4 RBIs. The Phillies won, 7 to 0.
July 15: CF Tim Morton of San Diego hit 2 home runs at home versus New York (N). He also hit a double and drew a walk, scored 3 runs and had 4 RBIs. The Padres won, 7 to 1.

Random Fact of the Week: The Beavers do three things decently: our batters don't strike out a ton (8th in the NL) and our pitchers don't walk a lot (5th fewest in the NL) and we also field decently. Other than that, we are near or at the bottom in everything....
