CF Rich Babbin was activated from the Disabled List and RF Eddie Cabrales was sent back to Indianapolis. We also sent 1B Rick Deveney to Indianapolis and called up 1B Eric McCornack.

The Montreal Expos and their manager, Alex Zendejas (46), are in Portland to kick off the second half with a 4-game series through the weekend. All of the Beavers had three days of rest and relaxation, but two of the Expos had to play baseball over the All-Star Break: SP Doug Stone (33 L) and his batterymate, C Dwight Smith (28 R). The first time we met them, we lost 3 of 4 in Montreal. April 5-8. We had to go 15 innings before we got the one win. They are 11th in runs scored with 3.8 per game (Portland is #16 (last) with 3.5). They lead the National League in fewest runs allowed with 3.4 per game (Portland is #12 with 4.7).

Montreal Expos (49-39 .557 5.5 GB in 3rd place in the NL East) at
Portland Beavers (31-55 .360 24.5 GB in 7th place in the NL West)

Doug Stone, Mtl (33 L 9-1 1.65 7.0-0.5-2.0-5.6 H/9-HR/9-BB/9-K/9) vs Angel Rodriguez, Por (23 R 3-0 3.14 5.3-1.9-4.7-6.0)

On April 8, Stone beat us, 7 to 2, in Montreal. He gave us 1 run, 6 hits, 3 walks and struck out 4 in 5 innings. He leads the league in ERA.

Game Start: 7:05 PM
Weather: 69 deg. Clear Skies with an 8 MPH wind blowing out to left.

Mario Ochoa swings at the first pitch of the game and grounds out to 2nd. Oscar Quinones grounds out to 3rd. 2 outs. All-Star catcher Dwight Smith strikes out! 1-2-3!

Bottom of the 1st: Rick Ferrell draws a walk to get us started. Jerry Alston grounds out to 1st, 3-1, and Ferrell moves up to 2nd. Lebron Williams grounds a hit through the right side, but Ferrell stops at 3rd. That is not good; we might not get a better chance to score in the whole game. Top of the 2nd: With 1 out, Paul Cook crushes one to right for a home run. 465 ft. Tie game, 1 to 1.

Top of the 4th: Paul Cook leads off with a double and with 1 out, another double by Ray Barnard scores a run. 2 to 1, Expos.

Top of the 7th: Ray Barnard leads off with a walk. Andres Espino bunts him over and PH Ted Triebold sends him to 3rd with a single. The Bullpen is activated. Mario Ochoa lines a hit to right and Barnard scores. 3 to 1, Expos. Oscar Quinones homers to left. 6 to 1, Expos.
