Quick story - growing up in Queens 20 minutes east of Shea in the 60s, lots of the ballplayers (who obviously didn't make so much money then) lived in and around the neighborhood. The family across the street was related to Dave Giusti, and from there, my sister wound up baby-sitting in 1966 for Jerry Grote as well as Ron Swoboda and Gordie Richardson. It was one of the bigger thrills of my 8-year old life when Grote pulled into my driveway one night in his station wagon and gave me his autograph
I also got Swoboda's autograph and will always remember how my sister said that his apartment in Flushing was filled with empty cream soda bottles
