To save Hart some heartache, the Minnesota Twins GM signed Barry Zito to a 30.5 mil (or so) contract for 10 years in 2006!
This was after he was asking about 5.5 mil for 4 years so I thought I would see how far the bidding would go. I eventually got up to a 30 mil a year for 10 year offer and another team topped it. This jumped Minnesota's payroll over 100 mil in addition to the Vlad Guerrero signing in 2004. They only make about 70 mil in revenue setting up for an awful loss even if they win a ton of games. They only have 84 mil in cash reserves also compared to other teams like the Yankees (720 mil) and Atlanta (430 mil).
Gotta love the greed and persistence of these GMs!
