Monday Morning Report


AL Player of the Week - Tony Bennet, cf, Kansas City (30 L .328/.383/.607) Had 15 hits with 2 2B, 2 3B, 4 HR, 9 R and 9 RBI in 7 G
NL Player of the Week - Joe Greenslit, rf, San Diego (27 R .284/.319/.377) Had 14 hits with 3 2B, 1 HR, 4 R and 2 RBI in 7 G Not much production for all of those hits.

May 28: 3B Diego Rueda of Los Angeles (A) hit 2 home runs at New York (A). He walked twice and had 4 RBIs. The Angels lost, 6 to 5, in 10 innings.
May 29: RF Alex Tamayo of Milwaukee hit 2 home runs at Tampa Bay. He had 4 hits, scored 3 runs and had 4 RBIs. The Brewers won, 8 to 4.
May 30: RHP Joe Sherman of Miami pitched a 3-hit shutout at home versus Colorado. He walked 1 and struck out 12. He is now 4-4 with a 2.33 ERA. The Marlins won, 12 to 0.
June 1: LHP Rod Guerra of Detroit pitched a 5-hit shutout at home versus Cleveland. He walked 1 and struck out 5. He is now 5-3 with a 2.49 ERA. The Tigers won, 5 to 0.
June 2: 3B Ron Janeiro of Houston hit 2 home runs at home versus Los Angeles (N). He also hit a double, scored 3 runs and had 3 RBIs. The Astros won, 13 to 2.
June 2: 1B Bobby Manzano of Colorado had 5 hits at home versus Arizona. He hit a double and a home run, scored 3 runs and had 4 RBIs. The Rockies won, 9 to 1.
June 2: CF Tony Bennet of Kansas City hit 2 home runs a t home versus Chicago (A). He drew 2 walks, scored 3 runs and had 4 RBIs. The Royals won, 12 to 1.
June 2: 2B Mike Waters of Toronto had 5 hits at Washington. He hit 2 doubles, scored 3 runs and had 3 RBIs. The Blue Jays won, 12 to 0.
June 2: Boston won at Baltimore, 8 to 6, in 19 innings. The Orioles led, 1 to 0, through 7 innings. The Red Sox scored a run in the 8th to tie the game and a run in the 9th to take the lead, but the O's tied the game with a run in the bottom of the 9th on a lead-off home run by RF Davey Brandes, his only hit of the day. No once scored a gain until the Red Sox plated 6 in the top of the 19th, the big blow a bases-loaded triple by RF Bob Meyer, who did not start the game. The Orioles scored 4 times in the bottom of the inning. RHP Dwayne Foreman earned the win with 8.1 innings of relief. The game lasted 6 hours and 50 minutes, including a 44 minute rain delay in the 6th.
June 3: 3B Steve Gustafson hit a double at Houston to extend his hitting streak to 20 games. He is 28 for 81 (.346) during the streak.
June 3: The day after getting 5 hits in a game, 1B Bobby Manzano of Colorado only had 2 at home this time, but they were both home runs. He drew a walk and had 3 RBIs. The Rockies won, 4 to 2.
June 3: Detroit scored at least 2 runs in each of the first 5 innings at home versus Cleveland and won, 17 to 2. The Tigers did not score after the 5th inning. They had 22 hits and 8 walks and no home runs.
June 3: RHP Gerry Gleason of Seattle pitched a 6-hit shutout at Texas. He did not walk anyone and struck out 1. He is now 7-5 with a 2.89 ERA. The Mariners won, 4 to 0.
June 3: CF Tony Bennet of Kansas City hit 2 home runs at home versus Chicago (A) for the 2nd day in a row. He drew a walk and had 3 RBIs. The Royals won, 5 to 3.

Random Fact of the Week: 1B Marv Helton of Pittsburgh is hitting .457 through the first third of the season. Assuming the same ratio of AB to PA as he has had already, he will need to hit .352 the rest of the way to make it to 502 PA with a .400 batting average. By the way, he is no dink and dunk hitter; he is on a pace to have over 100 extra base hits (and this is no steroid-driven league)! I expect him to get injured and miss the rest of the season any day now....
