This happens sometime if teams are on a bidding war. I had this happen when I tried to sign Ichiro Suzuki. I made an offer of $21,000,000 a year (I had a ton of money that season for free agency because I let go a number of players go the previous season) and the counter was a $26,000,000. He ended up accepting a $34,000,000 contract for 6 years from :drumroll:... Texas....
