Bob Addis passed away
Tuesday at the age of 91. Addis played for the Braves, Cubs and Pirates. The outfielder was originally signed by the Yankees in 1943 and spent 1944 and 1945 in the service. Having been taken by the Dodgers in the 1947 minor league draft, Addis was traded to the Braves in 1949 and made his major league debut with them on September 1, 1950. Bob's passing leaves (at most) 8 surviving members of the Boston Braves (there's some question as to whether Harry MacPherson is still living). Bob's best season came with the Cubs in 1952. He played in a career high 93 games that year and finished with a .295 batting average. But his numbers fell through the floor in 1953 and the Cubs sent him to the Pirates in the trade that brought Ralph Kiner to Chicago. Bob appeared in only 4 games with Pittsburgh that year, going 0 for 3 at the plate and that was the last major league action he would see. After he retired from baseball, Bob served for 34 years as a teacher and coach (and, ultimately, Athletic Director) at Euclid High School in Ohio.
While looking for pictures of Bob Addis (cuz I do that sort of thing), I came across this post from Jay (Buccos) in 2013. It's been 3 years, so maybe he's found one in the interim. But there did not seem to be any reply on Addis, here. I came across this Press Photo featuring some of the players Pittsburgh acquired for Kiner. Addis is on the far right. Unfortunately, all that seems to remain on the web is a small-ish image--a ghost of the original when, I take it, the press photo was offered on eBay and/or Amazon. The larger attached is about 250% magnification. So an image (at least one) of Addis with the Pirates
DOES exist. You just need to track down an actual copy of the Press Photo (sometimes these things turn up in the Lexibell files, but there are so many it can take forever to go through them).

1. Marv Rackley, I'm convinced a Pirate photo of him doesn't exist.
2. Bob Addis, ditto.
Thanks for your help,
