You may need to hand over control of roster moves and transactions (Manager menu-Manager Options-Team Control Settings) and then advance the day to get him to fix it for you, since there's no time to sign anyone else right now.

Edit: now that I think about it, try signing a player yourself first - I think we added an override at some point that lets you sign guys instantly if you're in this situation.
