Consider;
176 its + 18 (HBP) + 276 outs over 699 PA. That equals touching the ball in 67.2% of his PA. That doesn't include any foul balIs/tips in each PA. Let's say he hit a FB or tip once each 4PA that would add 175 touches making it 645/699 or 92% of his PA resulting in a touch of one kind or another.
If you add fielding stats he handled the ball 455 times excluding errors in 155 games. That's almost 3 per game.
Players touch the ball all the time.
In Bryant's case approx 7 times per game played

If we're going to be literally accurate, Bryant touched the ball 469 times during the season on fielding plays (assuming that he at least got a glove on it when committing his 14 errors) and 18 times when he was hit by pitches. His
bat also touched the ball, but no part of his body made contact.
But I don't think that Gizmo was using "touch" in that sense.
