Most of the stuff you can do. Historical play is a bit easier, because you donīt have the big world, but only the NHL/WHA available. You can always let your Assistant help you. For development you can choose between re-calculating the ratings each year or the "normal" game-development. You can also choose to generate all players with Age 17 (and then draft them) or let them show up on the teams that they played for first.

All in all I would say that the learning curve in historical is much easier because the number of rules and options is smaller.
