IME not being able to move saves between major versions is true of almost all games (eg- going from FHM1 to 2 to 3) and even in version updates within one title it is usual that saved games cannot be maintained. For years I've played the Europa Universalis series and other Paradox games and, unless they've changed quite a bit in recent years, their saved games did not transfer from version to version. They DID come up with a way to move your game across history (from EU, to Victoria, to Hearts of Iron) but this is a totally different kettle of whatchamacallits.
Out of curiosity, what games do you play that allows for this? Maybe OOTP have gotten far enough along to allow it, but i can't think of any war game or other sim I have played that allows this. Sims are just too complex. Now something with simpler saves like an arcade style game will likely allow this.... but this isn't an arcade game.

Almost anything is possible with enough effort. The question is: do you want them to put their time and effort toward this? Allocating time is a zero sum game my friend--if you want something done then you WILL lose time for something else. The only other option is to keep hiring more peeps and that's expensive?
