I'm fine with weaken hitters/pitchers with fewer than X AB or IPs to replacement levels BUT instead of adjusting hitters/pitchers with fewer than X ABs or IP to league average-OOTP should incorporate a usage concept.
For example if a player exceeds their real life AB or IP by 10% (or user define) then their rating would revert to replacement level. For a playoff series you would prorate the number of AB or IP. Players above X number of AB or IP ( a default setting or user define) would have unlimited usage.
For example, a very good catcher catcher with 275 real AB, instead of being league average for a whole season with the current system, their rating would be their RL rating for up to roughly 300 AB then revert to replacement level. For a playoff series, he would have about 15 ABs available. Somewhere the usage would need to be shown to the user.
