How many games are salaries based on?

I posted this question on reddit, but only received one response. I'm hoping I can get more information here.

I created a fictional league that started in 1980. During the course of my sim, I would change the historical financial settings each year to get more realistic financials. I simmed up until about 2012, when I decided to start my own expansion team. At this point, I had a 24 team league, and a 154-game schedule for each team. After simming a few more seasons, I reconfigured the league structure and changed the league schedule to 145 games per team. That's when this crossed my mind.

The average salaries for the different categories of players (Star player, Average Player, Below Average Player, etc.) are set by the system to reflect typical salaries for the current year. But with the in depth financial system of OOTP, these salaries are more critical than it seems. For instance, if they are determined based on a 162-game season, and you're only playing a 145-game season, won't this negatively impact a team's overall financial state because they aren't generating enough revenue (from the longer season) to cover the higher salaries? If they are based on a 162-game season, is it possible that the average salaries might be too high for a season that is less than 162 games?

I've been thinking about this more and more, and whether or not I need to adjust the salaries for a shorter season, or if the league automatically adapts. If the average salaries are too high, it could have a major negative impact on team budgeting.

Has anyone else put much thought into this? Have you figured out a system for generating the best "average salaries" that are appropriate for a specific season length?
