Apparently, a bug was introduced with the latest patch that causes players to get stuck on DFA, then released 10 days later.

In that thread, it was thought to only occur after trades during the offseason, but it looks like it's happening to your player after signing an FA contract during the season.
I guess the bug is worse than currently thought!
