I wasn't being completely facetious though.... I did mean to imply that some amount of unpredictable behavior by AI GMs is actually preferred in the game from my perspective, as long as it doesn't give the human player a consistent advantage.
It's possible the AI's scouts thought he had declined way further than yours. It's possible the AI GM weights ratings even heavier than stats (irregardless of your game settings).
Does Morale reset when the player is released? He wants to be the closer and he obviously wasn't closing, so maybe he was really angry and they would rather get rid of him than the guy that's closing.
It doesn't seem THAT off the wall to me. A bit odd, yes, but it can be justified, albeit not fully convincingly.
