August 2033 - In Review

Players of the Month - August 2033

Delaware Conference

Torres Takes DE Conf's Best Bat Trophy: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 29-year-old Pedro Torres put together a solid offensive month for Milton and was crowned August's top batter in the Delaware Conference. He batted .351 with 6 home runs, 20 RBIs and 22 runs scored. To date this season Torres is hitting .296 with 18 home runs.

DE Conf Announces August's Best Starter: Veteran Ricardo González put together quite a successful stretch in August for the Georgetown Sixteens, earning himself the Delaware Conference Pitcher of the Month award. González racked up a 4-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 1.79 ERA over 40.1 innings and striking out 55. In 28 starts this season González has recorded a 22-3 record and a 1.90 ERA.

DE Conf Selects Rookie Star of the Month: Patrick McGee is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Delaware Conference Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers. In August the Chadds Ford hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .258 average with 24 hits, 7 home runs and 14 RBIs. McGee is batting at a .270 pace this season, picking up 71 hits in 263 at-bats with 13 home runs, 36 RBIs and 40 runs scored.

MarVa Conference

Great August Gets Peña MV Conf Best Hitter Award: Lúcio Peña battered MarVa Conference pitchers all August and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award. "I've been around DELMARVA Baseball League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 28-year-old Peña told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month." In 27 games, Peña hit .314 with 13 home runs, 27 RBIs and scored 28 runs. Currently Peña is batting .298 with 38 home runs and 105 RBIs.

Tourists Hurler Named MV Conf's Best Starter: Júlio Rocha's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 6-0 in August, the 32-year-old Ocean City hurler has been named MarVa Conference Pitcher of the Month. He fanned 46 in 47.2 innings, logged an ERA of 0.94 and allowed opponents to hit .220 against him. In 25 starts this season, Rocha has picked up 15 wins while suffering 7 losses. He has pitched 188.1 innings, allowed 168 hits, struck out 181 and posted a 3.15 ERA.

MarVa Conference Names Rookie of Month: Hank Davis earned August's Rookie of the Month honors in the MarVa Conference for last month's performance. The boyish Richmond first baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level. Davis hit .319 with 10 home runs, 25 RBIs and 19 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award. Currently Davis is batting .314 with 33 home runs and 89 RBIs.

Standings - September 1st, 2033

The Colonial Division is all but locked up with the Milford Clippers holding on to an 11-game lead. They have a magic # of 21 and have been smooth sailing for a while now.

In the Northern Division the Newark Millers are just about ready to celebrate, holding a 17 game lead. With a magic number of 14 the Millers should be celebrating soon.

In hte Atlantic Division there is a three tam battle for the top slot and the wild card. The Georgetown Sixteens hold a 6-game lead over the Lewes Braves, who hold a 7 game lead over the Milton Brewers in the wild card. It might be an interesting month with the Sixteens battling a lineup of injuries. The Sixteens magic number is 25 and the Braves for the wild card is 24.

Over in the MarVa Conference the Admrials have pulled away and now own an 8 game lead over the Senators, with a magic number of 23. The Senators are in a battle for the wild card holding on to a 6-game lead against the Surf Dawgs, with a magic number of 25.

The Richmond Cardinals have just about punched their way into the playoffs yet again, holding a 14-game lead over the Express with a magic number of 17.

The Norfolk Cavaliers have pulled away over the past month+ and now hold a 19 game lead over the Surf Dawgs and have the lowest magic number in the DBL at 12. The Surf Dawgs (-6) and Blue Crabs (-8) are battling for that wild card slot, which is going to make September an important month for both of those teams.
