GM Notes:
We had a 3-3 week, but we were close to doing so much more. I am disappointed we didn't do better. Two L's in extra's. I need this offense to do more. I would like to see someone step-up (develop) over the off-season and become that offensive leader we need!
Carlos Sanchez is either looking for a change of scenery and raising his stock or has finally hit his groove. I know I was expecting more from him this season, but a small injury and a slump really put the dumps on it. However this week he seemed to pitch well in 2 games, and I really hope this is a sign to come. He already lost the #1 slot to Carl Oulton, which no one expected to happen... if that is the case he will be disappointed, because I am not going to trade him. He is my "ace" who is going to lead this team into the playoffs.
I still don't have a contract, so I am hoping that the owner is just waiting till the end of the year to offer me a deal. I feel like I have done a lot to warrant a contract and I have built this team to a point where we could really do some damage in the near future. No we may not win it all next season, but we are getting close to having a solid team.
The painful news for 2034? Is we are looking at yet another budget cut. We had a $71M budget for one season, which was so nice, and then it was dropped down to $65M a huge $6M cut... And currently we are projected to have a $61M budget for 2034!!! WHAT? How am I supposed to make things happen and contend, let alone build from within, when I keep getting my budget pinched? That part of it all makes me ready to move on... I just have too much unfinished business here in CF though... ugh.
Matt Noble could barely pitch in a game last season, for some reason he wasn't respected enough to get the call. A few trades later, and he is now one of our set-up men and doing an admirable job. I don't see him being the set-up man of the future, but for now he is getting people out and it looks like he will be a serviceable and inexpensive reliever for many years down the road.
As we creep up on September 1 I will have some decisions to make. Do i bring up the young guns or do I just keep them down on the farm and let them finish out their season and not get the clock started. I will be calling up a few guys but I am just not sure how many.
I am thinking if I don't get resigned for 2034 I am going to go after one of the other expansion teams and try to lead them... I need this to make my career a success. Lead an expansion team to the promise land!
