1972............................
The 1972 edition of the Expos was a bit of a disappointment. Injuries were a key factor as ......
CF
Willie Garcia on the DL twice total of 5 weeks
1B
Cory Carlson on the DL for 7 weeks
2B
Fernando Martinez on the DL for 2 months
SP
Jason Umoh injured in May out for 10 months
As was poor offensive performance..............
The Expos only hit .238 as a team and were 9th offensively with 356 runs scored, 11th in HRs with only 65.
On the postive side, the Expos did have strong pitching again this season, including Cy Young Award winning SP
Aaron Cregg. Cregg was 10-8 with a 2.27 ERA in 21 starts.
Eric Stuart (6-9 4.16 ERA)
Mario Romero (11-6 2.62 ERA)
Scott Turner (6-4 3.34 ERA)
Motohiro Kodama (2-5 3.81 ERA)
LF
Joe Woodbury had 29 SBs and hit .270 with 13 HRs and 42 RBIs to lead the Expos offensively. New comer 3B
Gene Watkins at age 26 hit .276 with 7 HRs and 35 RBIs while SS
Ryan Maynard hit 248 with 2 HRs and 36 RBIs, but was stellar defensively.

Just some history.....
SP
Mario Romero was looking for a more money than the Expos could afford, he signed for $78 M over 6 years with the Mariners. Romero continued to improve for the Expos, winning 35 games over 4 years while staying healthy missing only 1 start during that time. His last season with the Expos was his best but he is putting up some fine numbers with the Mariners this season (8-6 2.91 ERA 1.01 Whip) in 20 starts.
CL
Adam Larson spent 4 seasons with the Expos, 2 of those years as a closer before losing his job to
Ian Daniels and finally
Charlie Rancourt. The Expos felt that he was starting to lose his effectiveness as his ERA went up to 2.49 from 1.59 in 1970 and 1.72 in 1971. His BB/9 and his Whip were also heading Northward. He had 46 saves for the Expos but only 9 of them were in the last 2 years.
