This is exactly what I do. I have: (a) major league level with 12 teams, 126 game schedule that starts first Friday in October, finishes late Feb or early March.
(b) AAA league with 96 game schedule, starts first Friday in November.
(c) AA level with 88 games, also starts first Friday in November.
(d) A level with 64 games, starts first Fri in December.
I do the draft pre season on 1 September and set the trade deadline to 31 Jan, about one month before regular season end.
