The previous comment refers to the reductions in injuries so by extension then certainly yes to your question. There is under the topic Designated Hitter in Wikipedia a 'Debate' section that I know you will find both interesting and surprising. At the end of the article attention is given to an injury a pitcher suffered in an interleague game while running the bases. It was the beginning of the end of his pitching career.
