32 years in my league, starting in 1901, and how I long for the DH! But that's beside the point.

I don't think DH'ing will stop the decline of batting and fielding skills that comes with age. What DH'ing does do, though, is to decrease the chance of injury, obviously because the player is not out on the field except to bat and lumber.
