it's probably just bad luck. although, i have seen a player with exceptional ratings not play well for multiple seasons... he did just fine after i traded him, lol.
some players get hit with the ugly stick when it comes to results... the opposite of winning the lottery, but it does happen... just like some chump can have some really great year(s).
possibly morale affects it more than we think? more specifically the new manager relations. i didn't take note of that player-manager dynamic.
