If you want to use historical transaction you can't use historical minors. If you use historical transactions, Brock will be traded to the Cardinals, Carlton to the Phillies etc. Each season the players on your opening day roster will be those that started the season with the team or started the season in their system and played at some point during the season. Rosters will be limited in size to the number of players that appeared that season. It will be up to you/or the AI which players make the 25 man roster. Transactions occur during the season adding or subtracting form you roster.
I guess I will then have to stick with using historical minors, as I have SOM if I want to replay historical seasons without minor leagues. For me the allure of OOTP is the fact you have the minors and thus a more GM immersion --- so if I want a strict historical sim will I'll do this with SOM. This is not a slight against OOTP, as it sells itself as a "GM game" and all that entails, and not strictly has a "Historical sim game" each are very good and each are very enjoyable.

I've got 2 OOTP worlds going right now 1 started in 1983 (GM for Orioles) and currently in 1992 (won the world series 2 times so far 1988 & the most recently finished season 1991)

the other I started in 1957 (again GM of Orioles) with "no trading" in trying to keep it more to real life rosters (which is why I asked about AI updating season rosters as the career sim progresses)
