MY LIFE IN 1947
It's the middle of May... school will be coming to an end soon... summer vacation is right around the corner... I'm still in the second grade... wasn't smart enough to skip any grades... it sure looks like it's gonna take me at least 12 years to graduate... started the year at Russell in Mobile... then switched to Gilbert in Florence when my stepfather went back to sea... he'll be gone 3-4 times a year for 3 months or so each trip... my mama and I miss him, but the bills have to be paid... not a perfect situation, but much of the time, you do what you have to do to get by in this life.
I'm in Florence, Alabama, living with my grandparents... the Tri-Cities (Florence, Sheffield and Tuscumbia) only have 7-8 movie theatres... New Orleans had about 50.
Thought I would give you a couple of movie reviews of current movies... Ronald Reagan starred in Stallion Road... and Roy Rogers was in Apache Rose... nope, I wasn't a Reagan fan, but I sure did like Roy, Trigger and the Sons of the Pioneers... Bob Nolan and the Sons of the Pioneers always sang a song or two around the campfire at night... they really were good... really good harmony...at 7 I wasn't too fond of Roy's girl friend, Dale Evans... lately she's always in Roy's movies... sometimes I got the impression Roy wanted to "kiss" her... ugh, ugh, ugh... what a revoltin' thing to do.
