1962 New York Yankees (#83) 4, 1946 St. Louis Cardinals (#46) 2
MVP: Elston Howard (NYY 1962) .480/.536/.720, 1 HR, 6 RBI
The Cardinals started out with a strong Game 1, but only managed to win one other close game, with the Yankees absolutely dominating the final three. New York's first win came in Game 2, when they made a 9th inning comeback with 2 runs in the inning. They nearly did it again in Game 3, putting runners at 1st and 2nd with 2 out, but Dale Long grounded to short. The Cardinals felt that same magic in Game 5, scoring 4 in the 9th. Unfortunately, they started the inning down by 8, so they still lost by 4.
Scores:
SL 6 NYY 1
NYY 3 SL 2
SL 4 NYY 3
NYY 10 SL 5
NYY 12 SL 8
NYY 13 SL 1
The 1962 Yankees' next opponent will be the 1975 Reds, who swept the 1987 Twins in 4 games.
