1925 Pittsburgh Pirates (#51) 4, 1924 Washington Senators (#78) 1
MVP: Glenn Wright (Pit 1925) .476/.500/.762, 0 HR, 4 RBI
In 1925, the Pirates came back from a 3-1 deficit to beat the Senators in 7 games. In this series, they're playing against essentially the same team, but with a quicker win. Game 1 was perfect for the fan that likes a lot of offense. Washington scored 6 in the first and were up 8-3 after 3. But by the time the 6th inning ended, the Pirates led 12-11. The Senators tied it in the 7th, but the game was won by the Pirates in the bottom of the 9th with a walk-off Clyde Barnhart double. The Senators also took a large lead early in Game 2, 4-0. But that's all they'd score, and the Pirates scored 3 in the 3rd, 1 in the 4th and 5th, and another 2 in the 7th. After extending the series by winning Game 4, Washington took another early lead in Game 5, but the Pirates tied it at 2 in the 4th. Then Pittsburgh scored a run in the 8th and another in the 9th to seal the series.
Scores:
Pit 13 Wsh 12
Pit 7 Wsh 4
Pit 5 Wsh 2
Wsh 6 Pit 5
Pit 4 Wsh 2
The 1925 Pirates' next opponent will be the 1961 Yankees, who had a 1st round bye.
