1976 Cincinnati Reds (#45) 4, 1916 Boston Red Sox (#84) 0
MVP: Gary Nolan (Cin 1976) 2-0, 16.0 IP, 0.56 ERA, 6 K, 1 BB, 12 HA
The Red Sox just couldn't handle the Big Red Machine, not scoring a single run in Cincinnati (although they did finally score 2 in the 1st inning of Game 3). None of the games were really close, and the Reds beat up Boston pitcher Babe Ruth on two occasions. Johnny Bench had a horrible series, going 1-for-15, but it didn't matter behind great offensive series from George Foster, Ken Griffey, Pete Rose and Joe Morgan, as well as terrific pitching from every Red that took the mound.
Scores:
Cin 11 Bos 0
Cin 3 Bos 0
Cin 7 Bos 3
Cin 6 Bos 1
The 1976 Reds' next opponent will be the winner of the 1986 Mets / 2000 Yankees matchup.
