just arguing semantics... that's not harsh, because it is true. that is not a project. that is asking for money to for a personal purchase. hey, if it works, that's awesome for you, really. i wouldn't tell you not to do it, but you cannot deny what it is with semantical gymnastics. i've been the recipient of similar charity when i was younger, although i didn't ask for it, the person just knew of the need. so, i woudln't be a crumudgeon if someone was willing to do the same for you.
some of these "fundme" sites are terrible. i knew someone who was asking for medical bill help even though their insurance covered significantly more than what they were asking for.... no shame (not a comment related to kent, but the sites themselves and that person i know, lol. kent isn't misrepresenting what it's for.). as with most things, a few bad apples ruin the integrity of a potentially great idea (all the fundme, kickstarter stuff related to non-commercial things that help people).
