ready for 2017
The M's took a brief moment to bask in the glory of the 162-0 season and then set to work for next year. Nori Aoki, Leonys Martin, Franklin Gutierrez, Adam Lind, Dae Ho Lee, and Joaquin Benoit all left as free agents. The M's brought in a huge fish in Stephen Strasburg for $210 million over seven years, the last two years player options. We also picked up Japanese sensation Yoshio Shirai for $66 million over six years, pushing Mike Montgomery and Nate Karns (34-0 combined in 2015) to the bullpen. On the offensive side, we signed Josh Reddick ($54 million over six years) and Jon Jay ($2 million) to replete the outfield, and Kennys Vargas ($600K) and Mark Trumbo ($7 million over two years) to platoon at first base.
The predictions have the M's winning 86 games, and our owner thinks we should finish better than .500. What could go wrong?
