2017 World Series - Cubs vs. Red Sox
Game 1: Cubs win 1-0, CHC leads series 1-0. Much to the disappointment of Cubs fans wanting to see history, Cubs manager Joe Maddon removes starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks after 8 innings of no-hit baseball despite having thrown just 92 pitches, though he was on short rest. CL Neil Ramirez allowed a hit to ruin the combined no-hitter but nailed down the save to give the Cubs an early series advantage.
Game 2: Red Sox win 3-2, series tied 1-1. It's starting to feel like it's destiny for the Red Sox. Yet again, with their backs against the wall, a hero came out from the shadows. This time, it was 3B Mark Reynolds, whose 2-run HR in the top of the 9th gave the Red Sox a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Game 3: Cubs win 5-4, CHC leads series 2-1.
Game 4: Red Sox win 12-6, series tied 2-2.
Game 5: Red Sox win 7-3, BOS leads series 3-2.
Game 6: Cubs win 7-3, series tied 3-3, Game 7 forced for a second consecutive year.
Game 7: Red Sox win 5-2, winning their first World Series championship since 2013, and the Cubs fans at Wrigley Field can only watch as the visitors celebrate on the field, with the Cubs drought extended for one more year. It's a bitter pill to swallow, especially considering how close the Cubs were to finally ending the drought.
