Unfortunately that will most likely crash the game. Think that's what happened when I tried what you describe. But, that was a while ago. The game calls for specific rally sounds at specific times. Try this... Copy the rally sound files you like to a separate folder. Then rename them to the sounds you want to replace. Next, paste them over the ones you want to replace in the sound folder. Just make sure to save a copy of the originals first, in case you don't like the results.

Sometimes the game does a hick-up and does not play cheer sounds in the instance you describe. Nothing you can do about that as it's in the hands of the developer to fix that. That's the reason I still play with sound turned off. But, you can replace cheer sounds with more robust cheers. I did a sound mod for ootp10 that should still work in 17. You can find it at my site under 'download.' Just remember to backup your originals in case you want to return to them.
