But, it's also very possible that I'm simply an old man yelling hey you kids, GET OFF MY LAWN. The main thing about broadcasting today that bothers the hell out of me is the feeling that dead air is a bad thing. Too much talk ends up being noise and that is Rod to a t. He never shuts up. Rick Sutcliffe is even worse. Ernie used to let the game speak for itself. You got game sounds, crowd sounds etc. With Rod, it's I'm so smart, let me tell you why.
Oh but, no matter how bad Rod is. The worst by far on the planet is the guy that announces for the Indians. Tom Hamilton is so bad I actually for several seasons banned myself from having any Cleveland Indians on my AL only fantasy team. One year, I had several Indians. Heard Hamilton scream at the top of his lungs on some meaningless 3rd inning highlight and traded, dropped etc every single one.
Yea I'm not defending Rod at all. All I meant was that I wonder if baseball announcers are the only ones that can still show personality. (In good or bad ways). I feel like announcing has become so robotic and emotionless. However, maybe that is just the national broadcasts cause Mickey Redmond and Ken Daniels are great during wings games. I'm convinced they let him drink on the job!
