now that i've tried this, more than a single season test, this is what i am discovering. The template addition league - evolves. i thought it might. So the Nippon players all enter my game in year 1, because it's a collection of greats and not designed to evolve. they remain in the Nippon league until i decide to bring them to the majors/minors.

what this forced me to do, is learn how to edit the stats files with export import function. i've tried to figure this out before, and it's eluded me. But i looked at the files closer this time, discovered the part of file that explains them - i didn't realize it was after the teams ....

and i did an experiment or two, but i appears it can be done .... it'll be time consuming, but i can delete or edit the years stats (fields, hitting, pitching) the players have accumulated before they would actually enter my game (based on their real life introduction to baseball leagues) with the export/import tool. Then i merely need to change the age of the player with the editing tool on his profile. Then i can assign the player either to a major/minor league team, or let him become a free agent. This way, i get the players into my game around the years they would have in real life. i think it'll work out well.

Again a huge thank you to The Game and OBSL Commish for pointing me in this direction. i never would have figured it out on my own!
