The issue is the amount of "black" area... I don't claim to understand how this works, but I've tested it and come up with these results....
* If your "black" area is small (lines, spots, etc.) a change from 0,0,0 to 1,1,1 seems to work fine - however,
* If your "black" area is large (in a recent example, a "Black Sox" logo) I had to move the value up to 10,10,10 to avoid transparency.
I'm sure there's a good logical explanation for this, but the bottom line is 10,10,10 is such a dark gray that you'll never notice the difference - so I would suggest it as the replacement color.
