Plus you try to trade away a good player at the height of his value, and you have to guess when that is. Sometimes he declines afterwards, sometimes he doesn't. Sometimes one or more of the prospects you traded for work out, and sometimes none of them do. You pay your money and you take your chances.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.
